Configuration of my IBM ThinkpadT21
I've been playing with my Linux thinkpad setup for a while, and am running the 2.6 kernel. The biggest issue for me has been a constant spin up of the hard-drive even though I am leaving the computer idle (or just browsing the web). I thought I'd disabled all the daemons that hit the disk, but with Andrew Morton's help I found that gdnc was regularly writing to disk... that gone, the hard-drive spins down and stays that way... my setup is....- Debian unstable
- ext3
- metalog
- anacron

- the screen was going dark, the battery was dodgey, had noise problems, and my waranty was about to expire
- so I got them to come in and fix it
(the only orginal parts are the case, keyboard, processor; they replaced everything else under waranty)
- so I renewed my waranty - I love IBM on site service!
