• NadMP3
    • Via Nehemia 1Gig, 512 Meg RAM, 60GigHD, CD-RW

I gutted a NAD 522 Compact Disk Player and put in
  • a VIA Nehemia motherboard
  • Samsung CDRW
  • 60Gig notebook drive
  • Matrix Orbital USB LCD
  • an 80Watt DC powersupply to reduce the heat generated inside the case

The hardest thing was commiting to little details:

  • made a real mess of steel filings to fit the Motherboard face place into the back
  • I had to shape the connection between the CD-R tray and the NAD CD facia using Fimo (a bake hard modeling plastic)
  • 3 different powersupplies - initiall I was going for internal, but moving to a notebook style power pack meant removing a huge source of heat from the component case
  • some cruel problems with the MatrixOrbital? lcd - one DOA, one blown up by me
  • I had to change the cpu fan, and add a output fan to the back - two zalman fan speed adjusters in use

One thing i was considering, but didn't do: Get one of those little HIFI headfone amplifiers - like Cmoy

Software

At the moment I am using some perl I hacked up to talk to LCDProc, which then talks to mpd
